- In 1874 he was summoned for failing to pay maintenance of an illegitimate child. He had been ordered to pay 1s 6d per week but was 19s 6d in arrears. He was ordered to make immediate payment plus 5s 6d costs, or a month's hard labour. It appears he defaulted in his payment and was therefore committed
Mark was repeatedly convicted of drunkeness frequently involving fighting, the last known being for the 17th time in March 1886. On that occasion he was fined and sentenced to 14 days hard labour.
