- Gertrude Rippington was listed as the daughter of William & Mary Ann in 1891 & 1901, but then listed as Neice in 1911.
Philip was listed as Nephew in 1911.
There is no obvious parentage for Philip, and it seems reasonable to assume that he was Gertrude's child - one detail that could explain the complex relationships is that the name Newton is listed on Philip's death record.
Newton is the married name of Gertrude's Aunt Anna Maria Rippington.
Anna Maria died in 1885, the same year as Gertude was born, so it could well be that Gertrude was the daughter of Anna Maria who died in child-birth.
Maybe Gertrude was illegitmate and went to live with her Uncle & Aunt, being listed as their daughter until 1911.
Gertrude's birthplace is listed as Enfield, Essex - William & Mary Ann were either in Wolverhampton or Albrighton, Shropshire in 1885, Anna Maria was living 6 miles from Enfield!
